The Kilowatt Technologies Energy Cost Reduction Program

Faced with dramatically rising energy costs, financial and facility managers need innovative ways to decrease the energy costs of their existing buildings.  In addition, environment managers need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHGE) from burning fossil fuels to heat, cool and ventilate buildings and to power lights and office equipment.

All successful energy reduction initiatives begin by understanding where you are and where you can go.  We use our EnerSuiteTM proprietary software to analyze the past energy use, costs, tariff structures and Green house Gas Emissions (GHGE) of your buildings.  This information enables us to create an Action Plan that contains realistic, measurable and verifiable reduction goals.

Step One - Perform the Energy Audit

  • Analyze past utility invoices to quantify annual energy use, costs and GHGE baseline consumption for each building
  • Evaluate each building’s energy equipment and controls systems
  • Research and model your utility tariffs to develop a unique cost reduction strategy for each building
  • Prepare a 24-month Action Plan that estimates annual GHGE, energy use and cost savings.

Step Two - Implement the Action Plan

Evaluate and Build Database for Energy Equipment and Controls

We identify and catalogue your building’s energy equipment, we confirm how it is controlled, whether it works properly and how it should operate to provide a comfortable and productive working environment for building occupants at the lowest possible cost.   This data is entered into our EnerSuiteTM database.

  • Identify, name and test energy equipment and controls
  • Define, measure and build database for key performance parameters of energy equipment
  • Interview key personnel to determine operating requirements and set points for equipment in each heating/cooling zone
  • Develop Best Practices for equipment performance and operation to optimally meet building occupants’ needs

Step Three - Produce, Implement and Verify Recommended Actions and Document Savings

We then design and implement the protocols that allow us to collect data about the operating performance of your buildings’ energy equipment.  We reference this data to accepted national engineering standards and your unique building performance needs.  Our engineers use EnerSuiteTM to produce easy to understand charts of efficiency improvements and how to correct them.  Since equipment and control systems are complex, we work with your staff to verify, with additional data collection and analysis charts, the success of the efficiency improvements.

  • Design the protocols to stream diagnostics and energy management system data into the EnerSuiteTM program to measure on-going equipment performance on a 24/7 basis.
  • Analyze and document performance of energy equipment with EnerSuiteTM.
  • Produce Recommended Actions for maintenance personnel
  • Work with maintenance personnel to implement Recommended Actions
  • Use diagnostics to verify and prove proper implementation of Recommended Actions
  • Deliver detailed monthly energy use, cost and GHGE savings reports to your facilities, financial, environmental and public relations personnel.
